Palos Verdes Estates |
Palos Verdes Estates incorporated in 1939, is the oldest city on the
Palos Verdes Peninsula. It is also one of the most serene and scenic cities
in Southern California, providing its 13,700 residents and outstanding
quality of life. Palos Verdes Estates was laid out and landscaped by the
famous Olmsted Brothers, sons of Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr., who designed
New York City’s Central Park. With 849 acres dedicated as permanent
parkland, designated open spaces create a coastal setting. Gently winding
roadways, green hillsides, paths, stands of eucalyptus, pepper and coral
trees offer respite to residents and visitors alike. In perfect harmony with
the landscape is the Mediterranean design of the public buildings and
individuals homes, made distinctive by their red roofs.
The city’s notable landmark is Neptune Fountain in Malaga Cove Plaza. The
elaborate two-thirds scale replica of a bronze statue and fountain erected
in Bologna, Italy in 1563, was donated to Palos Verdes Estates in 1930 by
the Palos Verdes Project and serves as the City’s logo. The statue is
thought to have been over 100 years old before it was brought to the City
and was obtained from a villa courtyard outside Venice.
Palos Verdes Estates offers a wide selection of activities from which
residents may choose. The beautiful golf club and tennis club, as well as
the beach club provides access to a variety of sports and recreational
activities. The accessible paths invite walking, jogging and meditation.
Palos Verdes Stable boards horses and offers riding lessons.
Along with its scenic beauty, Palos Verdes Estates supports two convenient
commercial areas, several churches, and elementary school, a middle school,
high school and a library.
With access to the Los Angeles Basin, Palos Verdes Estates is a beautiful
suburban environment adjacent to one of the world’s great cities. |
